Education

The administrative district as a school provider

A broad general education and sound vocational training are fundamental elements for a successful professional life. We need well-trained young people who are able to master the challenges of the future. The excellent educational and vocational training system in Alb-Donau-Kreis ensures that they have the best opportunities to start their careers.

Alb-Donau-Kreis itself maintains and funds four vocational training schools and two special education and counselling centres.
The vocational training schools in Alb-Donau-Kreis offer a diverse portfolio of careers in the commercial, business and social fields as well as in home economics and agriculture. The educational offer ranges from vocational schools (Berufsschule), vocational colleges (Berufsfachschule) and technical colleges (Berufskolleg) through pre-vocational training years (Berufsvorbereitungsjahr) to vocational higher-level secondary schools (berufliches Gymnasium). In our special education and counselling centres, students with special needs receive education and developmental support.

Further information regarding vocational training schools, special education and counselling centres and pre-school education for children with special needs (Schulkindergarten) can be found here.

Educational Region

In October 2017, the state-supported Educational Region (Bildungsregion) was established in Alb-Donau-Kreis, along with now 27 other urban and regional districts in Baden-Württemberg. The key mission of the Educational Region is to instigate and coordinate the networking of institutions, administrations, stakeholders and individuals involved in education. The previously distinct boundaries between the responsibilities of schools, youth workers, independent school providers, politics, businesses and associations are increasingly dissolved. The goal is to raise quality in the fields of education where the diverse offers and different institutions intersect.
